Happy New Year from all of us at BookCliff Vineyards!
We are excited about the wines to come in 2021; the 2020 crop has begun its voyage to the wine bottle by way of barrels and tanks. Our winemaking team, Will and Josh, name these varietals as their favorites from the 2020 harvest:
- Chardonnay
- Sauvignon Blanc
- Cabernet Sauvignon from the Vinelands vineyard
- Graciano
- Malbec from the Heller vineyard
- Cabernet Franc from our BookCliff home vineyard
“While still very young, all of the wines are looking wonderful and showing lots of fruit complexity and structure, yet balanced tannin,” says Josh. Their favorite of all the wines is the Cabernet Franc, which is “already showing aromas and flavors of dark cherry, bay leaf, and red plum.”
We bottled the 2020 rose and sauvignon blanc before Christmas. Moscato and viognier are up next, followed by Crescendo. Will says that we had a tough vintage, but “if quantity decreases, it can increase the quality. So while we may have less wine, all the wines are better than normal, especially the whites.” All our whites will be bottled and ready to sell by April.
2020 may turn out to be a year to remember…for the wine!
