If you missed the virtual tasting of our new releases a couple weeks ago, don’t worry! They are available for you to taste the next time you come visit us, and we’re here to give you the rundown on these hot new wines:
Rose 2020
- We bottled 220 cases of this Provence-style rose. Ideal when served cold on a warm day, this higher acidity wine has a paler color that’s typical of southern France roses. It is made up of 88% cabernet franc and 12% merlot, both of which were fermented separately. Once they were done fermenting, they joined together in a delightful blend. The majority of our rose of merlot became the base of our Touch of Red. The grapes that we crushed first to create our rose sat on skins for four hours. The ones we crushed last only mingled with the skins for 30 minutes!
Viognier 2020
- A BookCliff staff favorite, we bottled 275 cases of our latest vintage of Viognier. This is typically a reliable white wine in Colorado in terms of quality, and this year is no exception. It’s got a ton of great aromatics of peach and honeysuckle that are characteristic of the grape.
Tempranillo 2018
- Supply is limited on this new Tempranillo – only 82 cases are available! This is a nice middle of the road Temp, not overly fruit-forward, but still full of characteristics typical of the varietal like dried cherry. It’s well-balanced and meaty so it’s easy to drink, great on its own or with food. A versatile red, this wine spent 12 months in American oak (25% new).
Souzao 2018
- You might remember this grape moonlighting as a dessert wine from 2013, but this version is dry, dry, dry! Much of the Souzao is used for blending in Crescendo, our bold non-Bordeaux red, and some of our other wines. It has good color and a lot acidity and tannin, so when some of our reds need a little pep in their step, we add small amounts of Souzao. What we have left after blending, we bottle as a single varietal because we’ve found that some people are looking for that intense red wine drinking experience. It spent 12 months in neutral American oak barrels to help it age and smooth out the tannins, but we weren’t looking to make this grape taste like a new oaked wine. The grape shines on its own and we think you’ll see why after one sip. We made 42 cases only.
Reserve Syrah 2018
- You’ll be wondering where Reserve Syrah has been all your life after you have a glass! This is not a wine we typically bottle as a single varietal as a lot of it goes into our Crescendo. In fact, Reserve Syrah is a never before seen label at BookCliff! We only bottled 50 cases of this beauty that spent time in new and neutral French oak barrels. There are a lot of barrel aromatics and influence on the nose and the finish. Think toasted caramel, toffee, and black currants. The mid-palate is full of tannin, structure, and fruit.
