Will, Owner and Head Winemaker
Will’s introduction to the wine industry was a summer tasting room job at Waterbrook Winery in Walla Walla, Washington where he was living while studying and playing Baseball at Whitman College. Pouring wine, serving food, and hosting large weddings led to an exciting summer for a 21-year-old and introduced him to a community of local wine professionals that opened his eyes to the charm of Walla Walla outside what he had known in the small college campus bubble.
Following graduation in Summer 2015, Will left Walla Walla to teach English in rural Japan. Will sorely missed the team camaraderie and daily physical activity of Baseball, and hoped to find work in the trades upon returning to the U.S. On the recommendation of a friend, he enrolled at the Center for Enology and Viticulture at Walla Walla Community College in Fall 2016. After two years of school and vintages at Walla Walla’s Bergevin Lane Winery and Dusted Valley Vintners, he was fully hooked.
Will most recently spent two years as the full-time Production Assistant at Corliss Estates in Walla Walla. “The team at Corliss pushed me to constantly improve. I started with imposter syndrome and left fully confident in my abilities to produce wine that competes in top markets.”
Will and his wife have always had an eye towards living in Colorado with the allure of endless skiing and backpacking abound, and the opportunity to continue making wine for BookCliff Vineyards was his dream realized. “Being part of a well-respected winery in an up-and-coming wine growing region such as Colorado aligns with my desires to constantly build and grow. I want to be pulling the rope for BookCliff, but also the greater Colorado wine industry as a whole.”
